Composite Tooling Fabrication

Composite tooling is the mold, pattern, or jig used to shape and produce composite parts and it’s the single biggest factor in whether a production program succeeds. Tooling that’s dimensionally unstable, poorly finished, or built to the wrong process will compromise every part pulled from it. Tooling built right pays off  build after build.

Tooling fabrication has been core to Custom Composite Technologies’ business for decades. We developed the tooling for  the 115-foot wing mast mold for America’s Cup-winning team BMW Oracle Racing, and mast mandrels for Team Luna Rossa. That same precision now supports tooling programs across marine, robotics, automotive, and automation applications.

What We Build

  • Production molds for repeat part fabrication, engineered for dimensional stability across dozens or hundreds of pulls
  • CNC machineded  Patterns for master tooling and plug development
  • CNC machineded Jigs and fixtures for assembly, trimming, and quality control
  • Large-format tooling tables  — our facility includes custom leveled laminating tables up to 12′ x 21 ‘ and6’x57’as well as 250f curing tables for pre-preg parts  two 5-ton overhead gantries for handling oversized tooling and parts

Built for the Long Haul

Tooling built at CCTI is designed not just for the first part, but for the fiftieth and the hundredth. We fabricate tooling using processes matched to your production volume and part tolerance requirements, and we offer on-site tooling storage so your molds are ready — and properly maintained — for your next production run.

FAQ

Composite tooling refers to the molds, patterns, or jigs used to shape and manufacture composite parts. The tooling’s accuracy and surface finish directly determine the accuracy and finish of every part produced from it.

Timelines depend on tooling size and complexity — smaller jigs and fixtures can be completed in a matter of weeks, while large-format production molds take longer to fabricate and cure properly. Contact CCTI for a timeline specific to your project.

Both. CCTI builds tooling for single prototype pulls as well as tooling engineered specifically to hold tolerance across repeat limited-production and semi-production runs, and we offer tooling storage between builds.

CCTI’s facility includes custom leveled laminating tables up to 6 feet by 57 feet, 20-foot ceilings, and two 5-ton overhead gantries, allowing fabrication of large-format tooling for oversized marine and industrial applications.
