Last year we finished a pair of davits for Kiandra, a 56’ offshore cruising boat, Designed by Mark Fitzgerald and built by Brooklyn Boat Yard. In the photos below you can see process photos from the molding, post-vacuum-infusion and the finished product. [And if you look really closely you can see our shop dog, Crew, is carefully monitoring the work. Or looking for treats].
Davits are crane-like structures used on boats to lift/lower or store small vessels like dinghies or lifeboats. It’s important that they are both strong and lightweight, making composite materials an ideal manufacturing choice for these parts.
