Luxury MegaYacht Modular Components and Decks
Client: Hodgdon Yachts, Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Hodgdon Yachts has been building boats since 1816. CCTI was honored to collaborate with the boatyard on two world-class sailing yachts: the 155-foot Scheherazade and the 98-foot Windcrest. In these vessels, the strength and durability of custom composite technology is married with traditional yacht-building craftsmanship for a classic look with lightweight functionality.
CCTI assisted Hodgdon with numerous composite items for Scheherazade, including cockpit seating, instrument panels, steering pedestals, bow and stern thruster fairings and carbon fiber intake louvers (with a teak veneer). To ensure a precise fit, we built a replica of the deck offsite and created molds of the louvers before installation.
Working with Hodgdon again on Windcrest, CCTI fabricated the entire deck superstructure, which included the forward cabin, pilothouse, and mid and aft cockpits. The three sections were made of fiberglass and foam core that was vacuum infused. They measured 20 x 65-feet collectively. The original laminate schedule was modified mid-construction when it was determined that the main sheet attachment area would require heavier reinforcement to withstand a tension load of up to 100,000 pounds. CCTI responded to the change in direction with a carbon fiber beam, supported by an integrated secondary structure that included two athwart ship beams and heavily reinforced mullions. Problem solved, we delivered on time."CCTI is a class act and an inventive operation. The parts they built for Scheherazade couldn't have been more expertly constructed."
