Aluminum Honeycomb Fiberglass Conference Table

CCTI was approached by a manufacturing colleague to fabricate a 15x5-foot composite conference table for a Manhattan architectural firm. The firm had a glass and aluminum honeycomb pattern in mind. They knew the look required composite technology, but they were having difficulty coming up with the right technique.

Using clear epoxy resin, we bonded the aluminum honeycomb to plates of water jet-cut glass. The process was finished by laminating ultra-thin skins of clear fiberglass to the underside of the aluminum honeycomb.

Considerable research and several test panels were conducted to determine the best combination of resin and fiberglass to achieve the pure transparency of the final product.
