Carbon Fiber Radar Mast, Funnel and Bow Sprit
Hull 500
Client: Burger Boats, Manitowic, Wisconsin
Just launched is the new Burger Hull 500, 155’ in length, with the Composite Radar Mast, Funnel and Bow Sprit, all of which were custom fabricated by Custom Composite Technologies, Inc.
The mast construction started with a tapered carbon fiber tube provided by Hall Spars, Bristol, Rhode Island. CCTI then fabricated each individual platform with wireways and built plates integrated in. The two bottom platforms (radar and spot light) were removable at the customer’s request to allow for low bridge passage. A pivot pin was incorporated into the bottom of the mast so the entire mast can be hinged down. The entire piece was vacuum bagged with an epoxy resin system.
The funnel was carbon fiber and built in two joining sections so it may be dismantled on the boat to allow for low bridge passage.
Bow Sprit
This carbon fiber bow sprit was hand laid up over a CNC cut mandrel.
Tracy Virnoche, Outfitting Design Lead of Burger Boats had this to say: “Please pass on the greatest of congratulations to everyone there for a job well done. Hopefully in the future we can team up again for great composite work”.
