Our Story

From flying cars to yachts and wind blades.

Custom Composite Technologies, Inc. is a family business, founded in 1999 by Steve and Maureen Hassett. In 2021 they were joined by their son, Nate, whose experience spans apprenticeship at CCTI, education at Montana State University, and working with advanced composite aviation companies in Redmond, Oregon as a composite builder.

In the early years, CCTI worked across multiple industries and earned a reputation for delivering superior, high-performance lightweight parts and tooling. Steve and the team worked on some interesting projects: From carbon fiber tooling for flying cars to fabricating and installing 18 fiberglass sculptures for a New York exhibition by international acclaimed architect, Zaha Hadid, and more. That broad experience is now mainly focused on serving marine and renewable energy customers.

We’ve been working in the marine industry from the beginning. We have long-standing relationships with some of the country’s most distinguished boatbuilders, including Maine-based Hinckley Yachts, Hodgdon Yachts, and Brooklin Boat Yard. Our work on America’s Cup racing boats includes building the 115-foot wing mast mold for Cup-winning team, BMW Oracle Racing, as well as mast mandrels for Team Luna Rossa and others.

Renewable energy is another area in which we bring decades of experience. Recent projects include building specialized parts for GE Global Research and Littoral Power Systems, as well as carbon fiber test foils for Ocean Renewable Power Company. In addition, we have offered composite tooling and build guidance for the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team (SEVT) since 2013.

Fabricating furniture is an offshoot of our marine work. We work with boatbuilders to incorporate wood and carbon fiber in custom yacht tables and other furnishings. We have also worked with high-end outdoor furniture maker, WeatherEnd to build custom tabletops.
